Topics I've Started

THE TIME MACHINE

22 September 2017 - 05:22 PM

Y'know, YouTube is a time machine, especially to me and most of us geezers. In 1945 I was a freshman in high school, and the big hit on radio (staticky AM, no less) was the Pied Pipers singing Johnny Mercer's "Dream." Every time I hear it, I'm an acne-faced kid again carrying newspapers and working as a shoeshine boy at the barbershop. I'll share. Enjoy. BTW, Jo Stafford had already left the Pied Pipers, to be replaced by June Hutton. Lotsa luck.

RIP Don Williams

22 September 2017 - 01:01 PM

I noted last week that Don Williams, "The Gentle Giant" with his trademark old Confederate hat has passed. He had many hits, but in  his "I Believe in Love" he probably had the biggest. I'm sad just knowing that he's no longer living. I do recall, but don't remember her name, that one of our students met him on a bus trip when he was traveling to do a show. I'm sure he could have afforded a limo, but traveling on a bus shows what kind of a man he was. Lotsa luck.

Johnny Cash's "Rock Island Line"

04 September 2017 - 01:14 PM

JC had this hit, but there was a Brit, Lonnie Donegan, who had an earlier version back in 1961. He played pretty good guitar too. Enjoy. Lotsa luck.

SPACEX rocket launch and recovery

16 May 2017 - 12:12 PM

Realize it's not guitar or even music related, but it's an impressive video from my Naval Academy Class website. It's over 22 minutes in duration, but the launch doesn't begin until time 12 minutes have elapsed, so fast forward, and it's only about ten minutes in duration. Because this website no longer allows entire internet addresses, you'll have to add your own "https://" in front of the www address. Enjoy and Lotsa luck.

Like an idiot...

19 March 2017 - 11:09 PM

I installed OS Sierra 10.12 on my iMac, and now it's killed my DVD/CD writer/reader. Darn Apple.  Lotsa luck.
