Video: Angels We Have Heard on High

21 December 2017 - 10:34 AM

Truefire has a course by Larry Carlton with 6 Christmas songs on electric guitar (though some also sound good on acoustic).  I've been tackling one per year as they can be tricky.  This is this year's effort - Angels We Have Heard on High.  Played on my newest member of the family - Tom Anderson Drop T.  Peace!

White Christmas

12 December 2017 - 01:27 PM

I recorded an acoustic version of White Christmas a few years ago.  I decided to record this on my Tele!  I'm not a jazzer but his arrangement is fun to play.  Recorded using DI with some reverb added.  I'm planning on doing Angels We Have Heard on High next week.

I guess we still can't embed youtube videos anymore, but here's the link:

Another great documentary - Hired Gun

12 December 2017 - 12:37 AM

Just saw this on Netflix.  Some great music!  The show is about a handful of musicians who were not the front men in their respective bands, but rather hired guns.  Anyhow, the highlight for me is seeing Jay Graydon himself play the beginning of his iconic solo on Steely Dan's "Peg" (at the 22:00 mark).  Highly recommended documentary!

I've been playing a lot of my Fender Tele lately.  I think that Tele's really fit my playing style well.  Even when I play rock, I like to play different chords and colors.  In fact, recently I've brought out my Fender Tele to the guitar stand (replacing my Strat) to be my primary practice guitar.

I wanted to get a more modern Tele, and I was down to the Suhr and Tom Anderson.  I took the plunge and picked up a used mint (almost unplayed) Tom Anderson Guitarworks Drop T Classic.  The quality is top notch, not to mention the tones.  It has a 5-way switch, and even has a push/pull knob for a slight output kick.  The last pic is the two Tele's side by side.  Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics:

Troubles at Gibson?

As a finance guy, a triple-C debt rating is really bad.  That means it's well into the "junk bond" category, and considered "extremely speculative."  One more downgrade would take it to "default is imminent with little prospect for recovery."
