It's official! Guitar Gathering 2017 will be at Trevecca University in their brand new music building. It's going to be the perfect size for our group, a great new auditorium, (stage, lights, state of the art sound system) Multiple rehearsal and jam areas, practice rooms, etc.
Trevecca is a small liberal arts university located minutes from downtown Nashville. I've been helping out there for the last couple of years as an adjunct guitar professor a couple of days a week. Great students and faculty. They've just completed the new music building (the grand opening is this weekend) and it's going to be perfect for the conference.
So, here's the scoop. This venue will be light years better than we've had before. We'll have all of our workshops at Trevecca. We'll have the whole building to ourselves because there are no music classes going on at that time.
I'm also working on the possibility of us being able to walk across the campus and have lunch in the campus dining hall which should be open because of the normal summer semester going on. I eat there all the time. Consistently good food, lots of variety, full buffet, comfortable dining area.
I'm also working on the possibility of making a few of the dorm rooms available for those folks who might want to stay there on campus. (These are college dorm rooms - not the Ritz Carlton) But they might be pretty reasonable and cost effective and convenient. I'm checking into this and don't have any info on this yet.)
Regarding hotels, Trevecca is not particularly close to any hotels but they are just 10 minutes away from downtown hotels ($$$) or about 15 minutes away from hotels in the Franklin/Brentwood/Cool Springs area ($$). I'll check with a few hotels to see if we can get a discounted rate.
All in all, I think this is a fantastic development. Brand, new, state of the art, facility - the perfect size for our needs. Close to downtown and all of the fun.
If I can work out a deal with some hotels in the Cool Springs/Franklin/Brentwood area then folks can stay in a comfortable hotel in a nice area and be at the venue in 15 minutes - and avoid the high cost of hotels in Nashville's downtown.
I'll keep you posted as things develop.
