I am the worst at changing strings and doing other maintenance that the rest of you probably do without giving it a second thought.  So this article at Pro Guitar Shop blog is probably old news to most of you.   But a quick read.

And I never realized the potential different care for finished/versus unfinished fretboards or different material fretboards.  Bob?  Pat?

YMMV

I more or less change strings when they break and apply mineral oil if it's a rosewood or granadillo fretboard. Unsure about ebony boards.

Ebony finger boards get the same care as rosewood. Only lacquered maple boards can't have oil

Thanks, I haven't broken any strings on my ebony board guitars yet. Now I know. :)
