It might be fun if some folks got together ahead of time and decided to collaborate on a song or two or ten while we're there.

I can play steel string and electric rhythm, however, rhythm for me is strumming chords. But I'd be very happy to play background for anyone whose musical tastes are similar. I'm in my 60's, but I love old time rock and roll and country from the 60's, 70's, and 80's, and I can play other newer things if they're not too exotic.

But let's make this thread like a want ad. "Wanted, lead player for Rolling Stones songs", or whatever.

I hope Capm will chime in right here, because I'd enjoy him playing lead on a Waylon Jennings medley that really rocks for me. Cap? what say? Anyone else - ya'll can share the lead part while I do the rhythm.

Does anyone sing? That would be helpful for many folks.

At any rate, kick the idea around and post something.

EDIT: I just posted all the song sheets that I have in Dropbox, so you can look thru things. Some of the songs I've made changes to since they weren't very good. Some I made notes on the sheets themselves. So pm me or email me at nacchoachbob at hotmail dot com to have me look and see if there are changes. Also, there are copies of song books that I haven't vetted, but might be pretty good. I know this music might not speak to all, but if one person can take advantage of it, it works for me.

Sounds fun. Haven't touched a guitar in a month since I have been out of the country so I will need to get back to working on things with tender fingers to get ready for the Gathering-my calluses are thinning. I'm mostly a rhythm type myself, have some vocal ability and also am a 60 -something rocker type myself. I play mostly blues stuff now with my group. Don't know if I could keep up with Cap though.....Might be fun trying.

Cap can take all the solos he can handle, we'll keep him busy, Greg.

Bob, I would love to join in. Judging from your list of songs, our tastes aren't too far apart.

Diane, you pick 'em. Give me advanced warning. And all I have are chord sheets, but I'm going to try to put those in Nashville notation if they will be used.

I could give it a shot while we're there.. I'm swamped with work and barely play at home, except for my choir stuff.

If John Sebastian is still doing this song, I hope he's changed it to at least thirteen thousand and fifty two guitar pickers in Nashville!

I have a song I really want to play. It's a Medley of Buddy Holly Hits that Waylon Jennings compiled. Cap thinks it might be to long, but I want to do it.

I need a lead guitar player for it, AND a singer. Here's a youtube of it, so take it and think of what you could do with it.

I will do the rhythm.

Here's the song sheet with the chords on it.

https://www.dropbox.... Hits.docx?dl=0

A singer is needed, badly.

Please consider it and step up to the plate to sing it.

Thanks,

Bob

Guitar Orchestra, anybody?

Not last Gathering, but the Gathering before (and the Gathering before that), we formed a little guitar orchestra to perform Pachelbel's Canon at the Student Showcase.  It was fun, and enabled maybe a dozen players of varying abilities to perform a number with minimal "exposure" and anxiety.  Most of the players used steel string acoustic guitars.

We could resurrect the Canon at the 2016 Gathering!  In addition, in preparation for this Gathering, I put together a four part arrangement of the 60's classic Paul Mauriat instrumental, "Love Is Blue."  I would love to have a world premiere of this arrangement at the Gathering.   For both pieces, we have standard notation and tabs, and parts range from easy (mostly first position, simple rhythm) to perhaps high intermediate (some upper positions, faster or more rhythmically complex passages).  Both pieces are short, and it would be fabulous to play both of them!

To make this happen

- We will need between 8 and 20 interested people.  Please let me know what level of difficulty you think you might be comfortable with.

- I need to find a way to get the sheet music to you.  I could email them to you, or set up a Yahoo Group where you can download the sheet music.  Or, is there a better way???

- Players should familiarize themselves with their parts and practice before the Gathering

- We need to find, ideally, a minimum of two solid chunks of time during the Gathering to rehearse

I hope I have not scared anybody off.  How about it?  If you have any questions, please let me know.

~Katie

I'm here at the Gathering (Holiday Inn) and have not given up hope of a guitar orchestra, or at least an ensemble, or at the very least, two or more of us collaborating on an instrumental piece. I have both Pachelbel Canon and Love Is Blue (with tabs!) on my iPad (Dropbox) and can email them to whoever's interested in giving it a try. Call me at Holiday Inn (registered under Michael Taylor).

Thank you Barbara for responding, and if it winds up being just the two of us, I'll try to find us a nice duet.

Perhaps we can touch base during registration tomorrow, and/or the first breakout session.
