Is there going to be a gathering in 2014? If so, it would be great to be able to plan ahead. Thanks.

I am in Atlanta, if anybody wants to get together to shoot the...., just sent me a message.  I can't jam for crap, so......., but I can go out for some nice dinner and conversation.

It would be nice if we could all meet and see our tools of the trade......

Unfortunately, I'm with Dan.  I wouldn't get my hopes up.  I haven't been around as long as some in this group.  But I know for the last two years there was discussion about this and it just never materialized.  I think it was last year one member from Great Britain was even talking about using vacation time and bringing his family and making this get together part of a family vacation to the US.

The problem is that it seems Legacy has largely divorced themselves from any such gathering.  So for this to occur it will need to be unofficial and completely volunteer.  There are people on this forum with the organizational skills to pull this off.  But no one in the past took hold of it to do so.  For it to happen in 2014 some one will need to organize it and the planning will need to start now.

Of course, to organize this will also be a huge time commitment.  So the person that needs to step up must be the unique combination of someone with a lot of free time, maybe retired, and possessing exceptional organizational skills.

I hope Dan and I are wrong because I think it would be a very fun, educational experience.

I don't know any of us that have the financial resources to FRONT any of the gathering... and unfortunately, without some kind of sponsor support, it is going to be tough....

I joined not to long after the last one and was very much looking forward to the next one that never happened...

It is by far the only disappointing thing I have experience with L&MG....

The very first gathering was started by two members Adele and I believe MikeM. They arranged everything and I am not sure they put any of their own money into it except calls, which were probably expensive for Adele as she was from overseas, and their own traveling costs. MikeM could not even make it.

When Steve found out that so many of us were coming down he arranged to do the first 8 on 1 lessens at the hotel. Later Legacy got involved and hosted a 1 day event at a downtown venue. The event was awesome and included the first appearance of Greg Voros, the first Student showcase, a silent auction and the night ended with a concert by Tom Hemby. I think we also had a picnic that year.

The following years Steve and Legacy organized everything and it became a multi-day event, they moved to a more suitable hotel, brought in awesome guests for workshops and concerts and took it to a new level. They did this for 3 years I believe.

The problem is that the attendance never really picked up and I believe it was stated that Legacy was losing money on every one of them so they stopped having them.

I would not hold my breath for any new ones.

Tom, I suspect that Legacy lost money due to the fact that they "brought in awesome guests for workshops and concerts and took it to a new level."  I have to wonder that if we were to go back to the original more conservative agenda that we couldn't do it net zero.

If we find a location with good flight connections and then find a suitable hotel we could go to that hotel and guaranty them "x" number of rooms.  In return for which they will provide us a meeting room no charge.  I've done this many times in a previous life.

I'm not trying to be argumentative but rather just throwing it out to see what kind of interest there would be in a scaled down get together.

Hmmm... I was just thinking about that this morning.  And, as a matter of fact, we are packing up our old offices in preparation for the move into the new building next week and I am proudly sporting my Guitar Gathering shirt.

Don't give up on it completely.  I haven't.

Hmmm...

Steve - what could we do as students to facilitate the possibility of this gathering?

Also as I've not had one week off since I was last in the States in 2011 when me & Lesley did our blues tour, it would be such an incentive if we heard something where to occur in 2014. Hey it could be my tird visit to Nashville

I've pretty much all but hung up the guitars because of work,

But if the dates are just right not to have work or the family over rule the vacation plans..

I'll say like I did all the years before that I was playing guitar.. I'm on stand-by for the date.
