I finished off today's practice with a first look at session 3, I now have a whole octave and a bit of notes on the guitar in my head!

Well in fact just picked up one of the guitars and realised I'd actually got 2 and bit octaves of C major in my head so have been happily picking away at a C major scale running from the open low E string though to the first G on the high E alternating it with a chromatic scale from the low E to high G.

Thanks, and my last runs through the C major scale took me right from low E till I ran out of high E string, just need to get the location of all those notes and everywhere else on the neck I can find them programmed in!

Another run through the regular and bonus sections of sessions1 and 2 and session 3s regular exercises (but not the songs). Its all getting easier with each practice, I don't need to consciously think where to put my fingers for B through to the G on the first string (even if the don't always land quite where I mean them to!) they just go there as I read the note which is how it should be! Played it on my classical acoustic tonight for a changed and ended up finger picking it as it sounds loads better like that than using a plectrum!

Well, not long after I last posted here I lost my job and spent almost 2 years trying to find work again every waking hour which sort of got in the way. Time to get started again now I have some well paid contracting work to keep me going so back to square one, though at least I didn't quite have to sell the guitars, so now to decide if it is the ancient no name acoustic, Takime Jasmine,  Crafter semi acoustic, Affinity strat or Vintage VL100 to start out on again!

Thanks, am leaning towards the Takime or Crafter, just need to find what the kids have done with my tuner and (if I go with the Crafter) cable!

It is a lot easier second time round! Yes I'm still doing the session 1 finger exercises to get the strength and dexterity back but I am also mixing in some session 3 stuff to keep it interesting. It certainly helps on on session 2 that I've played various instruments (mostly clarinet) since I was a kid growing up in the 70s so am not having to learn to read music on top of learning guitar and also know what the printed score should sound like (which isn't always what comes from my guitar at this stage!). Got most of the way through session 3 with the songs sounding more or less as they should (well at least the notes mainly in the right order) so lots to practice before I'm ready to move on but with a bit of luck back to where I was in 2 or 3 weeks.

Back after another year off with my 14 year old daughter joining the fun

Great to know that you are back.  But you are going to find little conversation here.  Most of the "guitar family" have moved over to Steve's new forum, "Guitar Gathering".  I hope you will join us there and share your guitar learning journey.   Playing guitar with your daughter has to be a hugely enjoyable experience!
