This Brit marxist will try and make it if he can. It will depend as we already plan to be in the States around June time.

So are we in the planning stages of this or is it all just conjecture at this point?

I was not around for the previous "Guitar Gatherings". Is this something that Legacy Learning oversaw or was it more something done independently of Legacy?

I may be speaking out of turn but from what I saw the prior two gatherings, Steve Krenz put this project on his shoulders and carried it through most successfully to the other side. :megaphone:

I played a full 45mins of acoustic music Friday for a group of around 30 people and it was with Steve's gentle and caring guidance and the most supportive group of musicians I have been blessed to have spent three days with, that helped me overcome my stage fright. I am most thankful for their kindness and encouragement.

Frankly, if Steve has to lift this tremendous weight by himself I will be surprised if we see another gathering. :trumpet:  :blushing:

2008 - The first one was conceived and planned by a couple of the members. They picked the hotel and came up with the events. Steve joined in and did some small 8 on 1 sessions in the hotel. When things took off and it was confirmed that there were going to be a lot of members there, Legacy rented a venue and hosted us for a whole day. They provided goodie bags, had a silent auction, gave us a stage and had the first student concert, had Greg Voros do a setup clinic, and invited Tom Hemby to give us a concert.

2009 - Legacy/Steve took over planning the whole thing. Many of the same activities were included but we got many more guests. Muriel Anderson, Jack Pearson, Johnny Hiland and the musical group Orleans.

2010 - Similar to 2009. The event was held at the same hotel and this time the guests were Jack Pearson, Phil Keaggy, Rick Vito, Russ Barenberg and Brent Mason.

2011 - New hotel, this time in downtown Nashville. Guest that year were Johnny Hiland, Martin Taylor, Will McFarlane, Russ Barenberg and Rick Vito.

2012 - No Gathering.

Why no gathering for 2012?

Despite the success of the guitar course itself, the Guitar Gathering did not gain traction in terms of attendees. Steve decided to skip a year to "recharge the batteries" so that he and L&M can come back with a more successful event in 2013.

Steve stated on the Live Lesson on Tues Oct2, 2012 that he is trying to wrap up the finals on the finger style course.
Once he is done that he'll turn his attention back to the gathering.
He did state that Legacy will probably not be part of the 2013 gathering, so I would assume that it will be a 'scaled' back affair which will be fine for me as long as I can get there this time.
I really want to go down to Nashville for it, just timing have been tricky everything its been on.

I look forward to what Steve will propose

It is now officially 2013 and people will be putting in their times for vacation (if they have not done so already), Having watched the progress of all the previous meets I know that the later the plans get finalized the fewer the number of people who can actually make it.

If I was a betting man I would probably not put money on there being a 2013 Gathering at this point. I hope I am wrong.

A few people asked this question in the chat last week. Steve finally responded that Legasy is not interested in hosting a Gathering. He's going to talk to his Nashville friends and possible organize something.

I'd love to go but the finances just aren't there. All the new federal taxes kicking in this month could cost my wife and I $800 per month, a number we cannot afford. So our struggle to pay for the benefits for other people will result in no chance of us making it to a Gathering.

Let's remember, somebody remember, to ask Steve about the reality of this happening this year at the live lesson tonight. I'll forget 10 minutes after logging off here today. But hopefully someone will remember to pose the question during the session.

That is disappointing! Guess I'll have to plan a trip with my wife, just to see Nashville, if that is what is comes down to ....
If we are lucky, we can meet Steve for lunch or dinner somewhere, our treat, of course!

Dan, if you're buying my wife and I will come and join you for lunch or dinner with Steve!

Last night during the live lesson several people, myself included, posed the question on the chat to Steve about the 2013 Guitar Gathering. He did not address it. I'm sure part of that is the fact that questions get rapid fired at him and he probably wanted to focus on questions relevant to the topic of starting off the year right.

But that does leave us up in the air regarding this.

Instead of hoping for Steve to organize a gathering and invite L&MG students, perhaps L&MG students should organize a gathering and invite Steve.

I think the only thing precludes us from returning to this model is what CTGull posted. That is copied below. This, at least to me, means that Steve is still considering organizing something. If we would hear from Steve absolutely one way or the other than we would know to either proceed with this model or back off.

If Steve in fact wants to organize this then clearly that's the way this will proceed.

If Steve decides he doesn't want to or can't for what ever reason, then there are a number of people on here with the organizational skills to put this together.

I volunteer to help put it together if Steve wants/needs the help. I missed the last one and would love to be a part of it. I think we could find other sponsors to help subsidize this. I also think we could take some of the workload off of Steve as well.
