Hi all. Very new to L&MP course, and have just completed sessions 1&2. Just have a question to any persons that have completed the course or are near completion or anyone who is to some degree somewhat experienced or accomplished at playing piano. My question is: for the duration of the whole course, is there fairly comprehensive instruction given on how to read notes/music?
And by the end of the course, will/should a person have a fairly good grasp of this skill? As I said I have only done 2 sessions which have only touched on the topic of reading notes/music, but so far I am still clueless in regards to this skill. Any help/suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks and regards. Greg

Welcome

aka The Jell-O Man, JelloManKent
I once played a cat and got all scratched up. I should have waited until it was made into guitar strings first.
Jell-O curtains are the best of both worlds. Just don't eat the curtains.

Hi Greg. Learning to read music proficiently takes a long time and a lot of practice. The more arrangements you read and play, the better you will become at it. There are some free applications you can download that help with developing this skill. Over time, you will start to recognize more and more chord voicings that you have seen previously and you will be able to more quickly play the proper notes. Of course you first have to know the basics (i.e. the notes of all the lines and spaces of both clefs). Learning to read is great and only makes you more of a complete pianist, but it probably is more important for playing classical music, whereas learning to play from lead sheets (single melody notes and chords) will be more benefical for playing other styles.
