Here's a strange question. Should I ship my guitar, or just try to rent/borrow one? If I go, I would ride my motorcycle (I ride nearly everywhere), and I can't take the guitar with me. I'm hesitant about shipping since I only have a semi-hard case. But maybe I'll swing for a full hard case by then.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks,
Wayne

I agree with Lacks Focus, You could always get a case with backpack shoulder straps and bring it with you.

Count me in.

This years event I sat in the background unsure of my skill level and lacking the confidence I needed to get on with my presentation for the student showcase; or even the master class I signed up for in advance.

I came this year based on my perception that Steve is a quality person who I could learn from and who I would want as an influence in my music journey. I was not disappointed.

Next year I will be as prepared as my work and home life allow but I will come to hang with some awesome musicians both beginners and pros alike who made my experience a memorable one.

Looking forward to playing, practicing and learning with this spirited guitar community. Peace.

just a thought, but I know several people from Texas attended the last two.three years. I am not sure from where they all came, but you might be able to meet up and have someone carry it for you, if they were driving, if they don't mind, and if you felt comfortable doing that....

what's s/h $40 oneway, you might even get a round trip discount ....?

that'll be one nice bike ride!

ohhh, here's another idea, buy a new guitar in Nashville and ship that one back home..yea that's the ticket!

Sing to him a new song;

play skillfully, and shout for joy.

I would be shipping it if I send it. I'm not taking it on the bike with me. ;) I'm thinking a hard case for the Guild would be a better option.

Can you get a gig bag for it with backpack shoulder straps?

Cool, can't wait to go to guitar camp. Been to Memphis but not Nashville. How were that last couple gatherings? When will we know about making reservations?

I'm pretty sure my wife will want to come along again, though this time I think she'll be in the audience for the student showcase. She was actually upset with me that I didn't tell her about it this year. I had no idea.

I've almost got the wife talked into coming. If I succeed, you gotta bring yours too as promised. :)

Awesome Steve! Thanks for giving us the dates early. It makes it a lot easier to get good airfare rates. Looking forward to it! :D

I was just at the hotel. It is about an 8 minute walk from the hotel to all of the clubs, Gruhns guitars, and things.

- Steve

I don't know if I'll feel comfortable carrying my 3 new vintage $100,000 Gibsons on an 8 minute walk...I might have to take a cab. :)

Wish I could have made it in 2010 and I really am going to try to make it in 2011 !!

Because....
It'll take more than Mel Bay 1, 2, & 3
If I'm ever gonna play like CGP
My legato is staccato but what I don't fret
is droppin' any note that I don't get

(lyrics courtesy of Clint Black - Ode to Chet)

To which I say...

I never tried Mel Bay 1,2 or 3
But I'm powering along through LMG
Still my fingers are a'flailing through my whole darn set
and I'm never gonna sound like Clint OR Chet

(lyrics courtesy of me.)

:)

my last comment for this note....

I've stayed at that hotel many times for work functions in the past. It is a nicer place than the Radisson, not to put it down, but if they raised their price, this will be a better value. They do a good job for breakfast too.
I think Steve and Gabe did a great job getting that rate during NAMM week.

That sounds like a good time. Perhaps, by then, I'll be playing well enough to avoid total embarassment!

One thing you'll learn about this group if you go (and you'll prolly learn it eventually if you don't):

We were ALL beginners at one stage. There is no embarrassment in playing a musical instrument, even if you play it poorly.

I watched someone who was on probably session 8-10ish? playing with 2 advanced players, 1 of whom was a borderline professional musician. There are no cliques here, just come and enjoy the music!
You are young and life is long
And there is time to kill today
And then one day you'll find
Ten years have gone behind you
No one told you when to run
You've missed the starting gun

I 'think' that somewhere along the line either Craig or I committed that the two of us would play something together at the next Gathering (since we are close enough to actually practice together)... All I have to say about that, is now that an actual DATE is set... who committed to that??? :D :D :D

I know, right? Suddenly it's real. I'm still going to claim I was drunk at the time. ;)

Guess we ought to start planning, Brian.

I once played a cat and got all scratched up. I should have waited until it was made into guitar strings first.
Jell-O curtains are the best of both worlds. Just don't eat the curtains.
