I once played a cat and got all scratched up. I should have waited until it was made into guitar strings first.

Keep those reports coming, those of us who couldn't make it are glad to see the successful steps everyone is making.

Here's a brief report of yesterday. After an exhausting night of setting up at the hotel on Tuesday night, yesterday began early with registration. Many people got their badges and registration packets. Then it was off to teach my first of 4 group lessons for the day.

Everyone was a little stiff in the first one for about 15 minutes which was to be expected. But, soon (as also was expected) everyone became fast friends.

There are so many wonderful people from all over the world. It is amazing.

We had our first Guitar Jazz Ensemble reheearsal in the afternoon and it went great. Everyone was well prepared and within one time of playing through the song, I knew that this was a good idea and I wished I had given the group two songs to play. They did great. I'm really looking forward to hearing them play.

The Get to Know You reception was this loud, cacophony of about 50 people stuffed in a room, all talking. And about a 3rd of them playing guitar in groups.

The jamming has been non-stop since we got here, literally. Even as I was finishing out last night around 11, there was room after room of groups of people playing, showing off their new guitars, and jamming.

It was a great first day. This conference has an energy that is all its own that is neither something I manufacture or want to control.

By the end of the night, absolute strangers were playing and laughing with each other like the best of friends. It's the power of making music and doing something that you love. Young and old, people from different countries, all are bound by the love of playing guitar.

It is 6 in the morning here and I know that today will be even better.

I'm missing the old friends who have been a part of this event in the past and couldn't make it this year. You know who you are, and you are missed.

More group lessons, and then dinner with the guys.
