Cathedrals In The Sky

My step dad was a pilot, and he always called the big thunderheads "Cathedrals in the Sky."

This painting is dedicated to him.

I like how you can see leaves flying off of the trees. It gives the feeling of motion and a big storm approaching. RUN FOR COVER!!!!! :scaredwarrior:
Lovely landscape! What are the techniques you use to get the clouds & trees looking so natural?

Vincent
Thanks! Vincent, if you look at the earlier posts you can see that the big thunderhead is pale yellow glazed over the darker yellows and oranges. The smaller clouds and the trees are knife-painted over the underpainting.

I noticed that too. You can tell the wind is coming in from the right (if you're viewing it). The branches on the tree are pushed upward. The branches on the opposite side are extended outward with leaves flying from that side of the tree.

Gayle, What is your conclusion of the new painting technique? Do you feel you achieved what you set out to achieve with it?
I think I like the look, but I want to experiment with other types of compositions and color combinations.
