On To The Big One!

The color studies are finished, and I'm excited about starting the big painting today. This is Thanksgiving and everyone else is eating turkey so I can work in total concentration.  (I'll be celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow with my fiancee)

I found, upon finishing the fourth color study, that I need to correct some things in the structure of the large cloud. It's an anvil cloud, and I want to emphasize its looming shape atop the towering masses of the cumulus beneath. That will be something I'll do on the underpainting of the final.

The Terra Rosa underpainting worked nicely, and I added a Cadmium underpainting to the trees and grass. Glazes in the cloud, scumbling in the trees and sky, impasto knife work in the grass. It's fun to mix the different techniques!

If you like landscapes which include clouds, google Maxfield Parrish. His work is awesome
