Jim,

I'm playing with a group called the Katinas. We will be at several different churches in the chicago area from Wendesday through Sunday. You can see which venues on their webiste... http://thekatinas.com/tour/

I'm filling in for their normal guitar player. I've played with them before but I haven't gone out with them - so this will be a great change of pace. I'm frantically writing out charts so that I can be ready for the rehearsal on Tuesday.

(I was just sure they were going to give me some TAB to read but I guess they must have forgotten that I'm a guitar player and I don't have to read music like every other musician.)

I just notice you'll be at the Calvery church by my old house. That should be a fun one Steve, people come from all over to that church.

I meant to behave but there were to many other options.

I live about 15 minutes from that church and go goose hunting about 5 minutes due south of the church. Too bad you couldn't have one of your master classes while you are here.

Steve it looks like you have a full schedule while in Naperville, but if "Mrs. Steve" will be with you can I suggest going to "the river walk" in Naperville for a nice walk. The Bell Tower is nice, along with other things.

Steve, have a GREAT time in Chicago!

What are charts? I know what tab is, and I know what music notation is...but not sure what you mean when you say you're writing charts.

Thanks! Peter

A chart is another name for a sheet of music.

Thanks Glenn!

I assumed he's doing some type of transcribing of music in written form...but I don't understand exactly what he's writing onto the sheets of music. Is he taking songs and transcribing them by ear into musical notation, or is he changing musical notation into some other form? Sorry for my ignorance...I'm just confused.

I'm not sure just a guess, but maybe he has the full sheet music,(all parts) and he's writing out just his guitar part.

I wouldn't call a chart equal to sheet music.... I have seen some charts that you wouldn't know what they were unless you were a music person.... and almost everyone knows what sheet music is....

There is a huge difference.....

I said a sheet of music, not sheet music.

Yes, he is probably transcribing from either recorded music or from the charts the group provided him and writing his guitar parts.

Steve, when you have time would you give us an update/review of your experience in the Chicago area, "Touring with the Katrinas"? Thanks, Jim
